The One (First) thing you should know about Life’s Purpose.

September 22, 2016

The desire to fulfill life’s purpose is universal, but there are many taking the wrong steps. I don’t plan to give a long list on what  you MUST do to fulfill this purpose, but to let you know the first (and probably only) thing you should know about living a purpose-driven life, which will definitely help in the journey in fulfilling life’s purpose.
What do I want to be? What on earth am I here for? What are my goals and ambitions? What are my plans for the future? These and so many other self-centered questions are what we just focus on. Maybe we have no idea who gave us this life we are so bothered about or we just deliberately leave him out of it. The purpose of your life is far greater than your personal fulfillment, family, career and so many ephemeral things. You could be very happy and feel fulfilled, but still yet to fulfill your purpose in life. There is more to purpose than living a life based on happiness and wealth.
Focusing on ourselves will never reveal life’s purpose. Like I stated earlier, we ask too many self-centered questions, which is the wrong starting point. If you really want to know why you were placed on this earth, you must begin with GOD.
“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible… all things were created by him, and for him”. Colossians 1:16
This above verse clearly states the supremacy of God over our lives and the reason why we should submit to him (“…all things were created by him and for him”). You didn’t create yourself, how then do you want to know why you were created without consulting and submitting to your creator? You can’t possibly know the purpose of an invention (you’ve never seen before), if the inventor has not told you its purpose. A focus on yourself shouldn’t be the STARTING POINT, it all starts with God. You were made by God and for God- life won’t make sense if you don’t understand this.
Reaching your goal and living a purpose-driven life are two different things, you can definitely succeed in reaching a goal if you put your mind to it. You could actually reach your goals and still yet to fulfill life’s purpose, you could live by the world’s standard (becoming a raving success and reaching all goals and aspirations) and still miss the purpose for which God has created you.
How then can you discover this purpose? Ephesians 1:11

Turn to God’s word, not the world’s wisdom. It’s in Christ we can discover who we are, what we are and why we are on earth. Build your life on eternal truths and not on the ephemeral things of the world, we are in the world, but not of the world. There are so many motivational and inspirational teachings that are based on what you have to do to fulfill purpose, of course, these could help in reaching personal goals, but when it comes to purpose, please let God guide you. Everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. You may get to choose your career, spouse, hobbies, goals and many other parts of your life, but you don’t get to choose your purpose, it’s been decided by God. His purpose for your life predates your conception.
