It took me a while to discover my true self. It could be that I had no idea what it meant or I was ignorant of how to.
I’ve always aspired to be a Medical Doctor while I was younger, even though my performance in Sciences implied otherwise. Still, being in a Medical profession appealed to me so much.
It’s possible I’d have achieved that if I had taken sciences seriously.
That would have been me achieving what appealed to me due to pictures of doctors I’ve seen with their robes and stethoscope and not what I have the innate potential for. The passion for arts would have still superseded it.

What exactly does discovering your true self entail?
Being aware of one’s potential, character and motive. Have you ever imagine a world where everyone was alike? Same beliefs, character and potential? Too boring I tell you. We are uniquely different and should embrace that fact.
It deals with your passions, beliefs and values. My aim as a blogger has been to inspire everyone to live purposely. It’s likely I get swayed by the fashion blogs and how quick they get noticed and tread that path. I’d have either stopped blogging or become boring. It’s simply not who I am or what I am passionate about.
Valuing being real over being liked.
It feels good to be liked by everyone, but it’s dangerous as well. Dangerous in the sense that you’re definitely doing something or everything wrong. This doesn’t imply you have to be despised by everyone but a number of people would definitely not like what you stand for. Be who you want to be not what everyone wants or expects you to be.
The thing is you have to be true to yourself. What exactly is your standpoint? Do you get easily swayed by what’s going on around which makes you change your decisions? Be real. Everyone can’t like you.
What makes you happy and complete
When the feeling of happiness and completeness sets in, then you’re on the right path. I can’t describe the feeling that jumps in me when I publish a blog post, it’s…fulfilling! There’s always something(s) that creates this feeling, you just have to take cognisance of what you do well with little effort. It could be photography, writing, singing, dancing and so on.
It is not an easy journey.
It comes with confusion, fear, doubt and misunderstanding. Most times, revisiting your choices in relation to friends and emotions. Most times, you could get discouraged and think you’re wrong. It’s just part of the process.
There are benefits!
They aren’t far-fetched. Having discovered yourself, happiness, fulfillment and clarity sets in. It might not be a source of income yet but still makes you happy.
